Eco Friendly Coffin Options: From Cardboard Coffins to Bamboo, Willow, Pandan & Living

Are you wanting to understand what environmentally friendly coffin options are available? Have you considered bamboo, willow, or even cardboard coffin possibilities?

If you are wanting to discover some eco coffin options that can often be more affordable too, then read on to find out more.

Cardboard Coffins:

Cardboard coffins can be a great environmentally friendly choice when it comes to funeral & cremation planning, and they are also the most low cost option too. Cardboard coffins are completely biodegradable and, as they break down more easily than other coffin options, they commonly generate less waste. If you choose to use a cardboard coffin for a cremation service, they will offer a reduced pollution rate. For a burial process, cardboard coffins will allow the body to become at one with the earth and re-enter the eco-system sooner than other coffin choices. Our cardboard coffins are made from a minimum of 70% recycled paper and wood pulp. They are also sourced from reputably sustainable forests.

Bamboo Coffins:

Much like cardboard coffins, bamboo coffins are also 100% biodegradable. Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on earth so it is extremely sustainable. Casket manufacturers are typically careful not to use bamboo that is needed by pandas to minimise the environmental impact of these products. Bamboo coffins can be a more aesthetically pleasing eco option over cardboard coffins, though they are much less cost-effective. We have two bamboo coffin styles available with cotton lining and engraved wooden name plates.

Willow Coffins:

Another great sustainable material to use for eco coffins is willow. It is a 100% renewable resource, and the willow plant can grow up to 8ft tall, with every plant re-growing each year after harvesting. Willow is woven to create curved or traditionally-shaped caskets. Unique funeral flowers can easily be woven into the grooves of the willow to produce a special floral display for any funeral or cremation service.

Pandan Eco Coffins:

Pandan comes from a palm-like tree that grows in the wild. The leaves are woven to produce a sustainable coffin choice for funerals or cremations. Natural pandan coffins are completely biodegradable and made from 100% organic materials. We can supply a round ended pandan coffin for £751. Although this is a higher-value option compared to cardboard coffins, it is a unique and individual eco coffin choice.

Loop Living Cocoon:

The most sustainable option available, the Loop Living Cocoon is the world's first living coffin. Made from mushroom species local to the Loop growing facility and hemp fibres, the Loop Living Cocoon is 100% natural and GreenLeave certified. Suitable for traditional burials, natural burials and cremations, it will completely biodegrade in 45 days. This unique and first-of-its-kind choice is the highest value of the sustainable coffin options, priced at £1,500, but represents an offering unlike anything else.

Conclusion

There is a wide array of eco coffin options available, from cardboard coffins through to coffins made from pandan leaves. When arranging a funeral service or cremation, coffins can be a wonderful area to make a sustainable choice & they can also be cost-effective.
