Who we are

We are Arthur C Towner Ltd. ("we", "us" or "our"), of 2-4 Norman Road, St. Leonards-on-Sea,
East Sussex, TN37 6NH

When we provide online services, we want to make them easy, useful and reliable. This sometimes involves placing small amounts of information on your device, for example, computer or mobile phone. These include small files known as “cookies”. They cannot be used to identify you personally.

What is a Cookie and what are they used for?

A cookie is a small file made up of text that is downloaded and stored on your computer by your web browser whenever you visit a website containing cookies. Each time you then visit the website, your computer will send these cookies back to the website allowing it to recognise you and personalise your experience by, for example;

  • Enabling a service to recognise your device so you don't have to give the same information several times during one task
  • Recognising that you may already have been given a username and password so you don't need to do it for every web page requested
  • Measuring how many people are using services, so they can be made easier to use and to ensure there is enough capacity for a fast service
  • Analysing anonymised data to help us understand how people interact with us so we can make them better
Cookie Name Expiration Time Description
cc_cookie 6 months Used to record the user's cookie preferences

Why use Cookies and can I remove them?

Cookies are used to enhance user experience but if at any time you wish to disable our cookies you can change your browser privacy settings. Most modern web browsers will allow you to:

  • Review all saved cookies
  • Block all cookies
  • Block all cookies from a particular site
  • Block all third-party cookies
  • Delete all cookies

Each browser is different, so you may need to refer to the 'Help' section of your browser to find out how to alter your cookie preferences.

Analytics Cookies

Google Analytics is a simple, easy-to-use tool that helps us measure how users interact with website content. As a user navigates between web pages, Google Analytics provides website owners JavaScript tags (libraries) to record information about the page a user has seen, for example the URL of the page. The Google Analytics JavaScript libraries use HTTP Cookies to "remember" what a user has done on previous pages / interactions with the website.

We use Google Analytics to understand how you use our website. Google Analytics stores information about:

  • The pages you visit
  • How long you spend on each page
  • How you got to the site
  • What you click on while you’re visiting the site

Important: Google Analytics does not collect any personal information about your website users. Read the Google Analytics privacy document for more details.

Google Analytics supports two JavaScript libraries (tags) for measuring website usage: analytics.js and ga.js. The following sections describe how each use cookies.

Cookie Name Expiration Time Description
_ga 2 years Used by Google Analytics to distinguish unique users by assigning a randomly generated number as a client identifier. It is included in each page request in a site and used to calculate visitor, session and campaign data for the sites analytics reports
_gid 24 hours This cookie is used for Google Analytics to store and update a unique value for each page visited.
_ga_XH6HR3PRXW session This cookie is used by Google Analytics to persist session state
_gat_gtag_UA_16134591_43 10 minutes This is a Google analytics cookie, used to throttle the request rate - limiting the collection of data on high traffic sites
_fbp 3 months This cookies are used by Facebook to deliver, measure and improve the relevancy of ads shown either on Facebook or other digital platforms powered by Facebook.
_hjSessionUser_id 1 year Hotjar cookie that tracks user activity on a website by assigning them a unique ID that persists across all visits
_hjSession_id session Hotjar analytics service cookie that stores current session data and ensures that subsequent requests within the session window are attributed to the same session

You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by downloading their browser add-on.
