Colin Miller

Funeral Planning Consultant

Now semi-retired, Colin has been a familiar face at Towners for over 40 years. He oversees our Golden Charter pre-paid funeral plans and is happy to sit and discuss people's thoughts about their own funeral arrangements and advise them on their best course of action.

Colin is based at our Battle office but will be able to meet you at any of our offices or at your own home if preferred.

When not working, Colin is a keen garden labourer under the direction of his wife, Judy, enjoys walking his Cocker Spaniel, Jess, (who is an excellent unofficial 'therapy dog' at Towners), cycling (not very quickly) around the lovely Sussex countryside and travelling in the UK and abroad with Judy.

Matthew de Eglesfield-Davis

Funeral Director
Born in Plymouth and raised in Hastings, Matthew lives with his wife and two children.  After leaving school he spent a large portion of his life working in the care industry, mainly with adults with learning disabilities as well as working in various retail roles.  For 13 years Matthew and his wife were shared lives carers looking after two adults with special needs in his home under the Adult Placement Scheme with social services.

In December 2018 Matthew found himself unemployed and was put in touch by a friend with Towners where he was taken on as a casual bearer.  In February 2019 he was offered a full time position as a funeral operative and then was successful in his application to become a funeral director in the July.

Matthew is a new member of the Triratna Buddhist community and is also a Mason.  He has many interests including target shooting and black powder, fresh water angling, watching films and many many TV series, collecting film memorabilia and gaming.  He hopes in the coming years to provide the much needed support and guidance families require when they wish to arrange a funeral for their loved ones in the Towners tradition.

Stephen John

Receptionist / Administrator

Born in Kent and raised in the 1066 area, Stephen studied English Literature and Drama at the University of Kent and, after a brief time teaching, started his own theatre company.  Stephen is now the proud owner, Producer and Artistic Director of the Bowler Crab Theatre Company.  As a professional actor, Oliver Towner worked for BC, touring with Stephen on multiple Shakespeare productions.  Oliver and Stephen's friendship aside, the Towner family have been enormous supporters of BC, both as patrons and by offering Stephen flexible part time work which enables him to work on both careers.

Aside from his passion for Shakespeare which has powered his theatre company through over twenty productions, Stephen can be found at his home in Three Oaks reading historical fictions, playing table-top games and writing novels he one day hopes to publish.

In 2020, Stephen joined the Battle branch as a receptionist and donations administrator and in his own words has "fallen in love with the historic town and its people". Stephen relishes the opportunity to help those in their time of need, his charismatic personality and sympathetic ear ready to aid all who walk through the doors at Battle.
